A Visit From Grandma & Grandpa Shellen

Sophie had a GREAT time spending time with her Grandma and Grandpa Shellen the past 2 weeks!  Ryan and I felt so blessed they could come into town and help us out before Sophie's nanny started.  We had a great time cooking, going out to dinners, hanging out in Boulder, and spending time outside!  Ryan even got to spend a beautiful day golfing with his dad.  Lori helped us out tremendously, cleaning our home daily, making meals, and getting up with Sophie during the night so we could sleep!!!  I can't tell them how much we appreciated everything!!  It was sad to see them leave.  Especially now with Sophie, I have such a greater appreciation for family...and hope someday we have our families closer.

My First Mother's Day

I had a GREAT 1st Mother's Day with Sophie.  It was so nice having Ryan's family in town to celebrate too!  Ryan made us a nice big breakfast with some of the fresh organic ingredients we got at the Boulders Farm Market the day before.  After breakfast we all went to Cherry Creek for shopping and walking around!  Unfortunately it was pretty cold and rainy.  After shopping we all headed to Whole Foods and Ryan's family bought us an amazing dinner for us to prepare at home.  Ryan and his brother cooked on our new grill and we had a Mother's Day feast which included Sea Bass, Filets, Salmon, and Shrimp!

It was a wonderful day with family and AMAZING food!  Couldn't have asked for a better day.

3 Months

It's hard to believe our little one is already 3 months old! She is getting so big and has quite the personality.

Here are her 3 month milestones.

-Sleep: Sophia is pretty consistent on a sleep schedule now. Down at 7:00/7:30pm up around 2:00am to eat and back down until 7:00am. Although, 2 nights ago she finally slept 8.5 hours straight! So hopefully she'll be getting thru the night soon.
-Smiling and Cooing: Typically she is the happiest in the morning, but we can get her to smile and laugh pretty much anytime of the day now.
-Rolling Over: About a week ago we noticed Soph on her playmat almost laying on her stomach. She can pretty much roll over completely to her stomach, but she still can't figure out how to get her arm out from under her.
-Playmat: This girl loves playing with her animals. She can laydown on her playmat and play for a good 20 minutes without being disturbed.
-Napping: From the beginning Sophie wasn't a great napper. With me going back to work this past week, I've been trying to get her to nap more in her crib. She does a good 45 minutes in the morning and will do a couple 20-30 minute naps in the afternoon.
-Likes: Baths for the first few minutes, then she is ready to be done! Walks/Jogs, she loves going out in her stroller and will usually be good for up to an hour. Loves her playmat. Loves Mom and Dad's bed. This girl is ACTIVE, loves kicking and moving around. We can already hold her up and she takes numerous steps on the ground. Wondering if this mean she will be an early walker!
-Dislikes: Tummy time, being held for too long, and staying in 1 room for too long.

Good Morning

I only have over a week more to wake up to this sweet thing every morning. I'm going to be one sad mama not seeing my baby in the mornings since I'll be at work so early. :( Soph and I are enjoying every second left we have to spend with one another before I return to work.

Ryan's Birthday/ Easter Weekend

We had such a nice relaxing weekend celebrating Ryan's Birthday and Easter. Ryan's birthday was Friday April 6th. We woke up and I made a big birthday breakfast, his favorite, breakfast burritos. Ryan's big request this year was a XBOX 360, thanks to his parents and my parents for donating to our fun new game! He spent the day playing games and watching the masters. We finished the day with dinner at one of our new favorite restaurants, Vine Street Pub! Happy 29th Birthday Ryan!

Saturday I had signed up for a 5k Easter Bunny run with some friends. Daddy and Soph came to cheer mommy on! It was my first official 5k post baby and I finished in 27.14 mins! I guess 9 minute miles are not bad for just getting back into running...but I'm a long ways from what I was doing a year ago today!

This Easter was a very special one with our new addition. It has always been tradition in my family going to church in the morning and going out for breakfast after. The 3 of us went to a pretty cool church we've been attending downtown called Pathways. The Pastor there is amazing and had a great message this week about changing your life for Christ. Sophie did great too, she slept thru most of the service (with Ryan having to go out to the lobby once to get her back asleep!) After church we went to our favorite breakfast spot, Steubens! Any of you who visit Denver definitely need to try this place out! It's been on the Food Network channel numerous times. We came home and took a nice walk since it was a BEAUTIFUL day then cooked a nice dinner and enjoyed the evening with Ryan's brother and one of his friends, and Ryan's friend Courtney and her boyfriend Craig. It was an awesome day with good food, friends, and family!

2 Months

It's hard to believe my baby is already 2 months old! Sophie had her 2 month Doctor appointment yesterday and is doing GREAT! She is on the charts with her height, weight, and head circumference.

Height: 23 inches (60th percentile)
Weight: 9lbs 14oz (27th percentile)
Head: 16 inches (51st percentile)

Here are a few things that are going on with our little lady at Month 2.
-Sleep: We are on a pretty consistent schedule for now... Sophie goes to sleep around 7:30/8:00pm and is up around 2am, then 5am, and usually up for the day around 7:30/8:00am. She is not a big napper, and is really up most of the day.

-Ergo Carrier: Sophia LOVES her ergo carrier. Anytime this girl is fussy or overly tired from no naps we put her in this carrier and she is instantly calmed. (Which has also caused mom a sore back since I wear her in this most of the day!!)

-Smiling: Finally around 7 weeks we started seeing little coos and smiles from this girl. She is the happiest in the morning but her mom and dad can get her to smile almost anytime of day!

-Music: Sophie LOVES music. On our daily walk/runs I put my iphone in her stroller and let her listen to Mozart. At home she lays on her mat and I will put on anything on from Lady Gaga to UB40. When daddy comes home from work he plays Dave Mathews for her...currently her favorite song is The Maker.

-The Vacuum: I know most Doctors recommend "white noises" to calm babies and I've recently found a noise that puts this girl to sleep instantly, The Vacuum! Needless to say mom has been vacuuming the house much more often! :)

I only have 3 more weeks at home with my little baby before returning to work... so I'm really trying to enjoy every moment I have with her!

"Aunt" Em's Visit to Denver

The last week flew by with my best friend Emily in town from Chicago. She came to help us out and to get to know her little "niece" Sophie! We had a great week. I got to go out and get my hair cut and colored for the first time in MONTHS while Em babysat. We spent a lot of time outside since the weather was so beautiful. Em and Ryan played Volleyball at Wash Park, we visited Ryan's brother Taylor for a day in Boulder, and went for long daily walk/runs. She was even a trooper and spent her nights rotating getting up with Sophie so mom could sleep! Thanks for all your help Em and a GREAT week! We miss you already!!
